SEBASTIAN SUAREZ-SOLIS
venezuelan sonic and visual artist
i think of my creations sometimes as people-watching, like a way of preserving and recreating some small element of human behavior.
other times, it’s a microcosm of human systems, a living, breathing ideopolitical diorama, like my prepared harpsichord destruction seven sounds for strings.
other other times, i make hybrid, intertextual chimaera pieces which are some part one art form and some other part another artform. i play contemporary and theatrical percussion, harpsichord, and viola da gamba. i compose on the harpsichord to easily switch between temperaments/tunings.
i am focused on bringing universal experiences to the artistic realm, treating every artistic medium as one. i seek to explore the gamut of human emotion, especially through the lenses of mental health, metaphysics, identity, philosophical arguments, love and sexuality, and oppression. there is, within the minutiae of human behavior, a dialectic universality that binds us together that i find so fascinating exploring through artistry.
